Dive into this skill set course, designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required to work as a qualified pool lifeguard in aquatic facilities. This unit is designed for those who will be responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons in pool environments, performing rescues, and responding to emergencies.
The training covers essential water rescue techniques, how to perform first aid and CPR, and the use of rescue equipment such as spinal boards and rescue tubes. You will also develop skills in managing emergency situations, conducting risk assessments, and enforcing pool safety regulations.
Upon completion, you will be full qualified to perform lifeguard duties, including surveillance, emergency response, and patron safety management in aquatic environments.
You'll master essential skills such as:
- Providing first aid
- Identifying supervision requirements of various aquatic venues
- Identifying hazards associated with aquatic venues
- Providing water safety rules to patrons and other staff members
- Monitoring patron activities, including parental supervision of children
- Identifying persons at risk or in distress in aquatic settings
- Determining appropriate water rescue methods
- Recognising the need for CPR and oxygen therapy
- Using and managing oxygen equipment correctly

Course Requirements
- No academic prerequisites required
- Students must be at least 18 years old when the course starts
- Students must provide their Unique Student Identifier (USI) number
- Students must be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, or Australian Permanent Resident
- Students must be available to attend a 2-day training session

Upon registration for the course, you must provide evidence of appropriate identification. You are required to obtain a Unique Student Identification (USI) number, which can be used for all studies in Australia. Applying for a USI is mandatory and can be done online here.
