Our Integrated, Inclusive & Holistic Kindergarten Program

At TLC Early Learning Mordialloc, our kindergarten program gives 3- and 4-year-olds a full year of dedicated, funded kindergarten inside our long day care service — no separate drop-off, no new faces, just familiar educators guiding your child toward school readiness. Our curriculum is shaped by the Early Years Learning Framework’s Belonging, Being and Becoming principles, and by Reggio Emilia’s belief that children are capable, curious learners who deserve a genuine say in their own experiences. In practice, that means a blend of intentional teaching and child-directed play: educators plan purposeful learning experiences, then step back to let curiosity lead.

  • For 3-year-olds: Building independence, forming early friendships, and finding their voice in a group setting.
  • For 4-year-olds (final year before school): The focus sharpens toward transition-to-school skills—following multi-step instructions, managing personal belongings, and working confidently in a classroom-style routine.

Throughout both years, our qualified early childhood teachers follow an emergent curriculum, building learning around what each child is genuinely interested in, while tracking progress against the Early Years Learning Framework outcomes every family can see in the Xplor app.

Our Preschool/Kindergarten Curriculum

Because our kindergarten program sits inside a long day care day, families can combine funded kinder hours with wraparound care before and after, without the logistics of a separate preschool run.

Across both years, our program covers:

  • Literacy & language: storytelling, phonological awareness and mark-making that lead toward early writing
  • Numeracy: counting, patterns, sorting and early problem-solving through hands-on materials
  • STEAM: simple science, technology, engineering, art and maths experiences that build curiosity
  • Perceptual Motor Program (PMP): structured movement activities that develop coordination, balance and body awareness
  • Social and emotional skills: turn-taking, conflict resolution and expressing feelings in words
  • School-readiness dispositions: concentration, resilience and confidence working independently and in a group

  • Research-Backed Design: Developed in partnership with Melbourne University and Griffith University.
  • Engaging Shared Activities: Includes storytelling, singing, music, gardening, and memory games.
  • Social & Emotional Growth: Builds empathy, strong communication skills, and respect for older generations.
  • Exclusive Experience: Offers a meaningful intergenerational connection you won't find in a standalone kinder.

A Typical Day in Kindergarten

Delivered inside our long day care service by qualified early childhood teachers, your child doesn’t need to attend a separate stand-alone kinder. Three-year-old kindergarten introduces the foundations: following simple routines, sharing, and building early literacy and numeracy through play. Four-year-old kindergarten builds directly on this, with a stronger focus on the specific skills your child needs before starting primary school.

  • Morning arrival, free play and group mat time
  • Structured learning experiences: literacy, numeracy and STEAM investigations
  • Outdoor and undercover active play, including Perceptual Motor Program sessions
  • Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, freshly prepared each day
  • Rest or quiet reflection time, followed by afternoon group activities
  • A relaxed afternoon pick-up window, with educators available for a handover chat

Three-year-old kindergarten focuses on foundational routines, social skills and early literacy and numeracy through play. Four-year-old kindergarten builds on these skills with a stronger focus on school readiness, ahead of starting primary school the following year. At TLC Early Learning Mordialloc, both are delivered inside our long day care service by qualified early childhood teachers.
