Building Independence & Social Skills With Our Toddler Program

Between two and three, children are working out who they are: testing boundaries, forming opinions and taking their first steps toward independence. Our toddler program, based in the Seal and Penguin rooms, is built around this stage of development, giving your child the structure and warmth to explore it safely.

Educators support toilet training in partnership with families, following your child’s own pace and routines from home. Throughout the day, toddlers are encouraged to make small choices, such as what to play with, who to sit with, or which song to sing, building genuine autonomy rather than simply following instructions. Emerging language is nurtured constantly, through naming objects, extending short sentences and modelling words for feelings, so toddlers can start to express themselves.

We also spend real time on the social skills that don’t come naturally at this age: sharing, waiting a turn, and recognising when a friend is upset. Our approach to children’s behaviour focuses on clear, consistent boundaries delivered with warmth, so toddlers feel safe to express big emotions while learning what’s expected of them, all guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, adapted for a child who’s just starting to find their voice.

Learning Through Play

Every activity is chosen to build a specific skill, even when it looks like simple play. We also run extra-curricular experiences like cooking and gardening, connecting toddlers to where food comes from and building fine motor skills along the way.

Our rooms are deliberately set up with natural materials rather than plastic toys, encouraging longer, more focused play. Because our educators plan intentional teaching around each child’s interests, no two days look exactly the same, but every day includes language-rich conversation, physical challenge and creative exploration, all logged with photos in the Xplor app.

  • Language & literacy: songs, nursery rhymes, picture books and naming games that build vocabulary and early communication.
  • Physical development: our Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) develops balance, coordination and body confidence, alongside plenty of outdoor and undercover active play
  • Creative & STEAM: sensory play, music, gardening in our vegetable garden, water play and our interactive wall, giving toddlers hands-on ways to explore cause and effect
